FROM MERYL'S DESK I recently got the chance to shine a light on a number of important health issues that affect the daily lives of Australian women. Everyone has a Mum, a sister, a coworker, or partner who they know and love. These health issues impact everyone. I could speak from my personal experience of menopause at this point in my life. I was proud to help announce during our most recent sitting week at Parliament House, what our Albanese Labor Government is doing to deliver more choice, lower costs and better health care for women. Our new measures include: The first PBS listing for menopausal hormone therapies in over 20 years. . Eleven more Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinics opening around the country. New PBS listings for oral contraceptive pills, meaning women can access these medications for a subsidised cost. Plus, more bulk-billing and larger Medicare payments for IUDs and birth control implants. These measures will open up availability and access to these medications to hundreds of thousands of women, young and old, and ensure thousands of dollars of savings over a lifetime. Labor Governments have a strong history of supporting and strengthening our health system. Our government is taking real action to improve women's health. We recently announced $1.7 billion for our public hospitals, which means an 11% funding extension in NSW. I welcome this extra funding. With an election year ahead, I worry what a Peter Dutton led government could do to threaten our health system, Medicare and aged care services once again. By contrast, I am working hard as your local champion to fight for and deliver our very own Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Paterson. These clinics were introduced by our Labor Government as a new initiative after the last election. These clinics are open for extended hours with no appointment needed, all you need is your Medicare card. This will help reduce pressure at Maitland and John Hunter Hospitals. Please head to my website listed to show your support.
