About
The Worimi are the traditional custodians of Port Stephens. Their connection to the land and waters of Karuah stretches back thousands of years and remains strong today. The present Karuah Mission was established in 1898, but the first Karuah Mission was established in 1868 at Sawyers Point (where the Karuah RSL Club is today). This was so the people could see their homeland at Soldiers Point. Karuah Local Aboriginal Land Council (established in 1983) continue to reinforce this connection to land and culture, so that it can be shared with and kept alive by future generations.
