About
Tomaree Youth Community Action (TYCA)
Was founded back in January 1999.
At the time it was an action group called Salamander Youth Resources Centre.(SYRC). SYRC was created to provide the youth in the area with a permanent skate facility & youth drop in centre. This has been a challenge that the committee is still working towards and has recently partnered with other organisations to help make this a reality.
Our Name Change
On the 8th June 2010 SYRC changed it's name to
Tomaree Youth Community Action Inc. (TYCA).
TYCA’s volunteers have worked tirelessly ever since to bring a variety of workshops and events to the youth of Port Stephens as well as continuing to raise awareness and work towards making a youth drop in centre & indoor skate facility a reality.
TYCA has held music workshops, DJ workshops, visual art wokshops, skate n scooter skill workshops, Snak n Rap events and TYCA's yearly Skate n Scooter competition. With our youth driven sub-committee TYCA continues to expand with a variety of workshops including robotics & coding workshops, street art workshops, an entrepreneurial challenge, digital technologies workshops & skill workshops in areas like mechanics & cooking.
TYCA or Tomaree Youth Community Action is a not for profit volunteer run community group that has hosted and supports community events, workshops and programs for the Youth in the Port Stephens Community for the last 20 years. We are based in the Port Stephens area but are happy to extend our programs to the Hunter Region.
TYCA’s priority is to "EMPOWER YOUTH TO FULFIL THEIR POTENTIAL"
TYCA’s dedicated volunteers have experience and qualifications in - Youth Work, Mentoring and Mental Health as well as a wealth of experience and talents and all our volunteers are required to have passed a Working with children check. TYCA also has a youth driven sub committee that gives the youth of our community a direct say in what types of events and workshops TYCA provides
